Back to Blogging and Bread Making

posted Sunday, 18 February 2007

I think the blog is more or less working - feedback is welcome, particularly since I've no idea how it looks on anything but our own PCs.

Tom's bread making (this is still the wonderful New York Time's bread recipe) is interesting because it shows dramatically the difference between the two 5-quart iron dutch ovens we have.  One is 10" and the other 9".  The 9" one makes a much nicer loaf.

The loaf on the left is made in our new 9" dutch oven from Maca. The one on the right is made in the more commonly found 10" oven.

Duth oven comparison

Tom's been making 4 loaves each weekend (two at a time) so I've ordered him a second Maca.

Jerry arrives this evening for a short visit. We are serving oysters on the half shell for starters, subliminal scallops , green salad with asparagus, and ice cream with our chocolate sauce.  Monday morning is crepes. Monday dinner is artichoke squares, roast beef with Yorkshire pudding, green peas, and pie.

We have light snow this morning that is just barely sticking. Nevertheless, all the chickens are standing in their coop pouting and glaring because they won't set food on snow.

INtersting that you have had blogging problems. I haven't had any trouble with mine.

That is because your blog is much newer than mine and, I think, was created with all their new software. Mine was made under the old system and everything has to be changed over by 1 April or else it quits. So I'm changing over.

yeah, I am now caught in the same problem. Since I was having computer problems I hadn't looked at my blogcity mail. I have a new computer now... I might call you tomorrow to find out what you have done. I can't figure out how to get my bookmarks back.

I’m in the process of doing some massive ring maintenance for the FiberArts Bloggers ring and I am contacting you because there’s a problem you may have noticed with your code. I will go ahead and e-mail you the basic ring code now, but if you don’t get it please let me know. Please feel free to contact me with any questions/concerns. Once you have your code up, if you want to send me a note I’d appreciate it, so I can check it out. Thanks! Joni joniknits@gmail.com

PS If we’ve already corresponded via e-mail you can disregard this message. I’m not the best with names. ;)

I like your new format very much. In your old format the Upisland Eggs banner was so big on my computer that I had to scroll down to see your current post. I'm kind of lazy, I like to see the post right up front so I can see if it's new. The bread looks wonderful, I'm glad to see that Tom is recovering. Best of luck with bread, chickens and health.
