My mom needs a nice winter hat and it needs to be large. I wanted to make a stranded Scandinavian style pattern, but was worried that I'd knit it too tightly and it wouldn't fit. But Tom also wears a large, and what fits him fits her. So I made a test hat first from a
Bea Ellis Knitwear pattern and Helio yarn. I'd never worked with Helio - it is lovely - and the pattern goes very fast. It is finished too late to enter in the Fair, but I'll display it in the tent along with various other things we've made.
I finished it today and had Tom try it on. His first comment was that it matched the Talvera soup bowls that Mary Ruth gave us years ago. Here is Tom and Talvera! The original pattern calls for a pompom or tassels as toppers, but I like it plain.

It fits fine! I'll wash and block it and start on the second draft in the pattern Mama likes, and hope it fits the same!
